Is laundry detergent safe for babies?

Is laundry detergent safe for babies?

There are many laundry detergents out there that claim to be safe for babies however most of them have perfumes and dyes in them that are not good for the skin of babies. There are expensive laundry soaps that are made specifically for little babies but if you are on a tight budget, they may not be something that you want to spend your hard earned money on.

Any of your laundry soaps that claim to be dye free and that are fragrance free are good to use and therefore do not have to be expensive. However there are places out there that have laundry detergent that is organic and verified to be gentle to use on babies skin. Ultimately, it is up to the mother to discuss if the laundry soap she uses for the rest of the family is the right choice for her to use on her baby.

If you do not want to use laundry soap or feel that it is not safe for the baby, there are items out there known to those mothers who choose to monitor all ingredients in their children’s exposure known as soap nuts. These ingredients are perfect for babies and are completely safe and gentle to use on a baby. The added bonus to using soap nuts is that the amount of soap nuts that you purchase are cheap and will last for a good while before you have to purchase more.

If you do not want to go to the all organic route or choose to use the dye free soaps, just know that you are always free to try using any of the soaps that you feel comfortable using. If you have more than one child, you most likely know already what soaps irritated your babies skin already and therefore should feel pretty confident in the soap that you use anyways.

There is no rule of thumb that says that you cannot use any type of laundry soap or that you have to use a soap which has no fragrance because mothers know what is best for their child anyways. The other thing to bear in mind is, you should do whatever you feel comfortable doing and if you start to notice that your baby is having an allergic reaction, then simply rewash the clothes and change the soap that you are using. That should help to reduce any hives or allergic reaction that your baby is having.
